This is my first time with you and thank you. I have been disillusioned the last several months by the Pope and many leaders of the Catholic Church. I feel they have accepted and even encouraged things against the Catholic doctrine. Some have accepted abortion, same sex marriage and even the Pope meeting and accepting leaders of the Muslims. This so called religion doesn’t even believe in our God and persecutes Christians around the world. Publicly accepting and giving Eucharist to those who publicly go against the doctrine and then Claim to be devout Catholics and try to remove God… Read more »
This is so true. Everything seems to have changed for the worst. I never see any children in church anymore they are .the sheep of the church but they to are lost. Please God strengthen our church and bring back the people and the sheep like it use to be. Amen
Lisa, it’s so true, we don’t see the young generation at mass, I have grown up kids and they belong to the once a year going to church. But I believe that I have planted the seed and nurtured it while they were growing up. They’re good people and as my parish priest once told me, that seed will flourish again, we keep on praying for them.
This is so true. We raised all 5 of our children in the church. When they started working, church was put on the back burner because they had to work on Sundays. Your priest is right, plant the seed and pray, be an example. They are in their 50-60’s now. We have been thru several serious crisis over the years but God has never left their side. They can see His miracles in the healings. Now they are returning, each in their own way . My prayers are being answered.
So many churches in the UK do a “childrens mass” on Christmas Eve instead of Christmas day which is insane. It’s family rituals like going to mass on Christmas Day which will keep drawing kids and young people back in. If kids never go to mass on Christmas Day, how do they even begin to know in their hearts (rather than just their heads) that Christmas Day is about Jesus? My younger brother doesn’t go to mass any more but he always goes on Christmas Day and Easter, because that’s just what we as a family do. If anyone suggests… Read more »
Hi Lisa, for this and many other reasons I go to the traditional Latin mass. I hadn’t gone to mass for many years, and then during our covid lockdown I started saying a novena, my faith came back! But it is never so easy, I still struggle every day, yet god remains with me, in the background, helping me out.
I pray for you all this lent to open your hearts to the love and mercy of God. To see Jesus in our leaders and trust, trust in His sovereignty over the church and our lives. Pray for our souls to be well. Pray for discernment to understand what is evil and what is in Gods favor. Recognize that Jesus wants us to come to Him for this not the agreement of the world or even here among each other. There have been many things to distress us about the church for years But God will always be there when… Read more »
Dear Lisa, Please think of each and every one of us as you are thinking about you. We are not individuals of a certain religion, we are individuals made of God. We should love each other, we should accept each other as we are. There is no one’s fault that they’ve been born in a certain faith or in a certain place, we all are the same in front of God and we all should love and respect each other as God teaches us. God is love for and to everyone. I’m not worthy that He should enter under my… Read more »
Yes, I agree, it can be difficult to accept, understand and learn about another way of prayer and religion but, we must always treat each other with dignity and love from whatever corner of the world we’re in or thinking about. Religion can be difficult, there are things about the Catholic Religion I disagree with, but the fundamental common denominator is….We believe in the teachings of Jesus and that is concrete within us.
Lisa, You have summed up my feelings as well. I feel unsupported by my church and uncomfortable about what is happening such as with my last confession I asked the priest what to do with not getting any information about the present Pope’s actions. His response was for me to talk with the pastor. Not exactly what I would like to hear. Rather, even some support fro him would have been good. I remain doing my Catholic obligations because I believe in the doctrine but we are being let down by our pastors, bishops, etc., not addressing this Valid point.… Read more »
Yes, I agree with you, Linda. I no longer consider myself a Catholic, having seen the gross hypocrisy of the upper levels of the Catholic Church and Pope sweeping scandals under the rug; endorsing sinful behavior; and changing eternal truths, while enforcing human indoctrinated useless rules. As someone said yesterday, “I don’t think Jesus Christ came to earth to establish 200 denominations…” Faith and religion oppose each other in our time. There is more concern for membership and money than helping parishioners meet God’s standard. I now consider myself non-denominational, however, I do appreciate the Catholic Church’s increased focus on… Read more »

Our Lord is merciful.to all.and despises nothing that we have made. He overlooks people’s sins, to bring them to repentance , and He spares us, for He is our Lord, our God Grant, O Lord, that we may ,begin with holy fasting this campaign of Christian service, so that we may take up battle against spiritual evils, and we will be armed with weapons of self-restraint. Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your son, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit. Amen
Thus is my first time I have joined in this retreat. I’m excited where God will lead and take us in this journey together. Thank you for being faithful to God and sharing with us.

I am a devout Christian but I am a Baptist and not a Catholic. I pray that this time will glorify God and no particular denomination. I am excited to grow closer to my Lord and to understand more completely the significance of Lent. I too am deeply troubled that what was once unacceptable is now acceptable and that God’s perfect order has been discarded by so many. At the same time I am thankful and at peace in the knowledge that God is still in control and always will be.
I have noticed by the comments that several non Catholic Christians are taking part in this retreat – this is wonderful to see! I myself was raised Presbyterian and I am so grateful that my parents raised me in the faith. I was received into full communion as a member of the Catholic church 35 years ago. All Christians are brothers and sisters in the faith. I hope this retreat really blesses you on your faith journey.

I’ve joined Bruce’s lenten retreat before and know that, with Bruce’s help, my life will have changed at the end of Lent. Maybe not in a massive, tangible “I won the lottery way”. Definitely in the strength of my conviction in my faith and I am praying that I will have a better overall relationship with God, more just being/abiding with God, embracing any challenges sent to me with the knowledge that God will never send me a challenge without providing all that I need to get through it rather than asking for things to be how I’d like them… Read more »
This is my 1st retreat I’m not a Catholic and I don’t think it matters.
