Hello. Is Lent a time of learning the Bible or a time of sacrifice for others? Perhaps, both? I would love to hear the teachings and prayers for others, not just for ourselves. What I meant to say, it is very hard for me to think about myself at this moment, when I see so much blood and hear about so many lives, lost every day in a war. If the war was in America, we would pray day and night, if the death was happening in our families, we would weep and cry. But human being doesn’t love the… Read more »

I feel deep sorrow for those precious people in Ukraine. I will not stop praying for them! God will answer and make things right! I pray for Putin as something horrible is wrong with this man! I am also thankful to God for the people of Poland for their help and pray we can step up and do whatever is needed!

I feel the same way as you do about Ukraine. The Whole World is praying for them. The Ukraine people are very religious people, and they are going to church even though it is an underground service. I hope GOD hears their prayers and ours and the war ends soon. The Blessed Mother has appeared there twice, and I hope and pray that God sends Mary there again. Love and prayers to everyone.

Bruce – please clarify the statement about original sin. With all due respect Brother, I am afraid that some may misinterpret what has been stated about rejecting God. And certainly if I have, I stand corrected.

“Although it is proper to each individual, original sin does not have the character of a personal fault in any of Adam’s descendants. It is a deprivation of original holiness and justice, but human nature has not been totally corrupted…..” CCC 405

In my CCC – I had penciled in “original sin is contracted, not committed.”

Hi Phyllis Thanks for your very good comment. Your last line captures well that Original Sin is, ‘contracted, not committed.’ In the quest to give Original Sin definition and explanation some academics describe it as ‘a flaw inherited or contracted within the condition of humankind’ who are made in the image and likeness of God and called by God to share in the divine life of God. The action of the death and ressurection of Jesus restores or atones for the consequences of Original Sin, making life with God fully accessible for all of humankind. Great thought and reflection. Thank… Read more »

Thank you Bruce for this important message that confirms to me about the vastness of God’s Love and His forgiveness that goes far over and beyond any experience of forgiveness I have ever known!!! Today I was transfixed on a passage of Scripture Jeremiah 31: 31-37.Especially the verses 35- 37. I felt that the Lord was speaking to my heart about His great Love and forgiveness!!!May you be blessed and feel the Love of God ABUNDANTLY Bruce, and Rosemary and all who work in the ministries and all who are participating in these Daily Devotionals!!!

Good evening and thanks for your reflections. Until I followed up on a comment I read today in a newspaper I can’t say I was aware of Van Morrison and his music. Are you familiar with Van Morrison “When Will I Ever Learn To LIve In God” ? I was amazed at how relevant the words were to your talk today. Coincidence! It is too long to quote here but Verse 3 is a sample of the lyrics. When will I ever learn To live in God? When will I ever learn? He gives me everything I need and more… Read more »

It is one thing to forgive but saying a few words is only half the battle. The other half is looking again into the face you trusted and loved and have been hurt by and trusting again. Forgiving with words is easy. It is just the beginning. The hard part is living it out and becoming vulnerable again to the person who hurt you.

Dear Margaret you are so right. To forgive by our words is a start but the biggest battle is living it out. The blessing is though we have GOD walking with us to help us do this and He is patient and loving with us on this journey. Much love Rosemary

Bruce in light of today’s lesson, how would I as a mortal human being forgive someone like Presiden Putin for what he has done and seems content on doing to the Ukrainian people?

Betty

You mentioned the second slave owing an “ordinary sin,” Is that a venial or a mortal sin? I’ve never heard of sin being ordinary. Please clarify.

Hi Betty

I was differentiating between original sin and our personal sin which I called ordinary. It’s not a common term and we should not think of sin as being ordinary. Thanks for the question.

Good bless

The love of God is awesome, he is always there for us, his forgiveness has no limitations and he is asking us to have that kind of heart, if we can have that kind of heart, the world will be a better place, we are asking Almighty God to change us, make us to have love so we can love others, we give what we have. If we can enjoy the privilege of God’s mercy and sacrifice, even as sinful as we are, he still loves us, like a prodigal son who came back after lavishing everything he had, at… Read more »
